The 3 Gs of a Successful Lifestyle Change

The 3Gs of a Successful Lifestyle Change

In tandem with the 3Cs of a successful lifestyle change, we have the 3Gs. These are important so pay attention!

Goal

The first thing you have to establish if you want a change in lifestyle is your goal. What is it that you want to achieve?

Weightloss?
Improved fitness?
New job?
Be happier?

Whatever it is work out what your goal is and write it down. When you write it down it puts it there even more and you can refer back to it any time you feel a little lost.

Examples of goals would be:

  • To lose weight so I can fit into my size 12 clothes
  • To get fit so I can keep up with my children
  • To be happier in life
  • To have a job I love doing

Write it down. Get yourself one of those pretty little notebooks, it’s always fun to write in those! Refer to it on a regular basis and see if you’re closer to your goal. If you’ve achieved it work out another goal. In fact, you can have more than one goal at a time for different areas of your life!

There is nothing like the sense of accomplishment of achieving a goal so go for it!

Goodness

This may sound like a strange one but this is to focus on the goodness that is within you.

It’s very easy to find fault and criticise yourself. It’s as if we’re conditioned to do this. How often do you look in the mirror and have some kind of critical thought – “there are bags under my eyes, my eyebrows are too thin, I look so pale, my face looks fat” – it’s endless!

The more attention the so-called “bad” things get, the more they grow and grab your attention.

Instead, how about looking in the mirror and find something that’s good about yourself – “my eyes are looking bright today, that dress looks good, I have a nice smile” etc.

This is something you should practice every day – and not just in front of the mirror. When you accomplish something, acknowledge yourself for it – “I did a good job there”. Or you made it through a trying day and cooked a meal at the end of it – “I made it through a trying day!”

Do it now – pick one thing about yourself which focuses on the goodnessAnd now pick another one.

Does it feel strange? Just keeping doing it!

Get Going

The 3rd G – just get going! You’ve established a goal, you’ve focused on your goodness now put one foot in front of the other and GO! You may find the 3 Ps helpful in getting going and working toward your goals. And don’t forget to use the 3Cs – Care, Commitment, Consistency.
