The 3 Cs of a Successful Lifestyle Change
There are many reasons you might be wanting to make a change in your lifestyle. Perhaps it’s physical, perhaps it’s emotional or perhaps it’s something else. Are you overweight and looking to get slimmer? Are you unfit and fed up of puffing up and down the stairs?
Whatever the reason here are the 3 C’s for changing a lifestyle.
Care
Do you care enough to actually take effective measures to change your lifestyle?
This isn’t caring about what other people think but caring about yourself.
If you’re overweight is it healthy for you to remain that way, do you care? If you’re unfit do you care enough to put in some effort to make a change? And what about your emotional state of mind? Do you care enough about yourself to take action that will help make you happier?
This is an important starting point to successful make a lifestyle change.
Take a look at your situation and what it is that you want to change. Now – do you care enough about yourself to make that change?
The thoughts you have about yourself are 100 times more powerful than what other people think about you. Deep down I know you do care so well done on step one!
Commitment
After caring comes commitment. You have to commit to changing your lifestyle.
If you’re giving up sugar it’s no good to say “oh one more little cake won’t hurt”. Or if you’re trying to get fit “oh it won’t matter if I only do 10 minutes today instead of 30mins exercise” etc.
Commit to your Goal (see the 3 G’s for a successful lifestyle change [coming soon]) and to the path you plan to take – and don’t waver.
Consistency
Once you start on the road to changing your lifestyle you have to be consistent.
Take weightloss as an example. Whatever healthy eating plan you adopt you need to keep doing it. Maybe you lose 2lbs in the first week or maybe only 1lb but if you don’t consistently follow the plan it definitely won’t happen in the long run. An extreme example – you won’t lose that first 5lbs if you eat a cake every other day 😉
Exercise is another area which absolutely requires consistently. If you’re following a weight lifting program (even light weights) it takes time for the muscles to adjust and to build up strength. If you give up after a week or two it’s not going to happen!
Changing a habit requires consistency.
Take a look over your life and see where you can apply the 3Cs to improve situations where things are not as ideal as you would like them.
