Protein Powder for a Healthy Diet

Protein powder can be a good supplement to your main diet. Some people use it as part of their workout program whereas others use it just to add some extra protein to their diet.

I’ve tried a few protein powders over the years and one of my favourites is Purition Protein Powder. This protein powder comes in 2 options – original range and vegan range. the original range contains whey protein and the vegan range contains a mix of pea, rice and hemp protein (depending on the flavour).

One great thing is you can buy a discovery box of protein powder which includes 6 options for you to try – either original or vegan.

The flavours included in the original range are:

  • Chai Latte
  • Macadamia & Vanilla
  • Chocolate (Cocoa)
  • Coffee and Walnut
  • Strawberry
  • Coconut
  • Almond
  • Pistachio
  • Unflavoured

The flavours in the vegan range are:

  • Chai Latte
  • Vanilla
  • Hemp Chocolate
  • Coffee and Walnut
  • Strawberry
  • Hemp Original
  • Blackcurrant

Protein Powder Ingredients

The protein powder is sugar-free and is naturally sweetened with Stevia. The ingredients are all natural. For example, the following are the ingredients for the Vanilla Vegan Protein Powder:

Proprietary Vegan Protein Blend (Pea, Rice and Hemp protein), Golden Flaxseed, Sunflower Kernels, Almonds, Coconut (sulfate free), Chia (Salvia Hispanica), Pumpkin Seeds, Sesame Seeds, Nutritional Yeast (B-vits), Psyllium Husk (fibre), Apple Pectin (fibre), Vanilla Pods, Steviol Glycosides (Stevia)

Options

First off, I tried the vegan discovery box to see if I liked the texture/taste of the protein powder. I was pleasantly surprised – I liked all flavours except coffee & walnut (I’m not a fan of cold coffee anything!). I found the sweetness about right – not too sweet but sweet enough.

I then tried the Macadamia and Vanilla original. I like vanilla flavoured protein drinks because you can mix it with other things and it doesn’t affect the overall flavour. After deciding to switch to a more plant-based diet I tried the Vanilla vegan version next and this was also very good.

Uses of protein powder

Then are many ways to use the protein powder – meal replacement, added to meals, protein balls etc.

I sometimes have it for breakfast in a smoothie with a banana, some blueberries and rice milk. This keeps me going until mid-morning when I have some nuts. Other times I add a couple of scoops to my morning porridge to give it that extra bit of protein.

Below is a little graphic to show you the different types of protein powder.

Try the vegan discovery box to see which flavour you like the best!
