Home Pamper Day

We all lead busy lives and a lot of that busyness can produce stress – rushing places, trying to meet deadlines, money worries, anxieties about the future and so much more.

One way to deal with the stress of life is to give yourself a breather and what better way to do that than a home pamper day!

A home pamper day could be a whole day affair or just a few hours. It could be part of your self-care Sunday. However long you want to spend on it, here are some things to do:

Your Step-by-Step to a Home Pampering Day

1. HYDRATE

Start the day with a large glass of water with fresh lemon juice squeezed into the water and some freshly grated ginger. Use about ¼ of a lemon – or more if you prefer. You could also boil the water first, add some cold water and drink it warm – all depending on your preference as some people like cold water at the beginning of the day and others like warm

2. BATH TIME

Next step – have a warm/hot bath. Fill the bath with water that’s hot enough that it doesn’t go cold while you’re lying in it but not so hot that it gets your heart pumping!

When you start filling the bath add some salt to the water. Use Himalayan salt or Alka Salts. This helps to draw out toxins from the body. If you like the smell of lavender then add a few drops of pure lavender oil. This aids relaxation as well as being pleasant to smell.

Get in the bath and have a nice soak. If you’re the kind of person who can just lie there for 20 minutes then do that, if not have a book with you and read for a while. But for at least 5 minutes lie in the bath, close your eyes and do nothing – think nothing, do nothing. This will help you to relax.

After 20 minutes relaxing give yourself a foot scrub with a pumice stone or foot brush. This is the best time to do it as the dead skin will be very soft.

3. HYDRATE

After your bath drink another glass of water, with lemon if you like it. It’s important to keep yourself hydrated especially after you’ve been soaking in a salt bath!

4. FACIAL

The next step is to give yourself a little facial. It’s nice to go to a salon for a facial but you can also do a good job yourself. If you’ve done the previous step of having a bath your face will be nice and warm and the pores slightly open.

First of all, cleanse the skin. Use a cleansing cream or cleansing wash and rub that on your face. Give it a good massage to get into the pores. Rinse off with water, a facecloth or cotton wool.

Now apply an exfoliator and gently massage the skin (except for the eye area). Rub well around the nose and in the crease of the chin as these are areas that collect dirt. Remember to address the jawline and just below. Rinse with water, a facecloth or cotton wool.

Now apply a toner following the instructions of your particular toner – some are spray-on, others are dabbed on etc.

Apply moisturiser all over your face, under the chin, on the neck and the chest. This helps to keep the skin soft and prevent craggy skin under the chin area.

5. TEA TIME

Make a cup of ginger and lemon tea as per 1 above. If you don’t like lemon and ginger have your preferred hot drink – preferably caffeine-free.

6. MANI/PEDI

While you’re drinking this tea give yourself a little mani/pedi. Trim your nails if needed, moisturise your hands and feet and push back the cuticles using an orange stick.

7. RELAX!

And…. put your feet up, sit back and relax.

By now you should be feeling quite zen!

Hope you enjoyed that!

Natural Skincare Products

If you’re looking for some natural, organic skincare products then I can recommend Neal’s Yard Remedies. The products have no parabens, artificial fragrances or synthetic colours and they’re not tested on animals.

I’m currently using the Frankincense Hydrating Cream, the Geranium & Orange Handwash, Honey & Orange Facial Scrub. I love these products! It’s amazing how very little goes a long way – I keep taking too much moisturiser out of the jar for my face.
