Take Time to Breathe

What is Breathing Time?

Our lives are so busy it’s easy to forget to take some time to breathe! In this sense, breathing means taking a break, some respite, a breather.

If you work in an office, it’s likely you sit for long hours in front of a computer screen or on the phone and so on.

Parents rush from one thing to another, dropping the children at school, taking care of a little one at home whilst cleaning up the breakfast dishes, planning the grocery shopping for the week and often holding a part-time job at the same time.

People who are self-employed work long hours in order to service their clients as well as getting new work lined up for the future.

All of this means we are busy busy busy but we often forget to actually enjoy living.

By living, I mean taking a moment to smell the cut grass, to look at the blue sky, to help a friend and generally take some precious moments to enjoy life.

In short, TAKE TIME TO BREATHE!! Whether it’s a few minutes at the end of the day or a few hours at the weekend, don’t just leave it to your yearly holiday – take time to breathe now!

What Relieves Stress Fast?

Taking some time out is a good way to relieve stress. This could be 15 minutes, half an hour or a whole day. The bigger the stress, perhaps the longer the break needs to be.

While you take a break, it gives you the chance to unwind and take your attention off of whatever is causing you stress – even if it’s just the general stress of life – and relax. This can help give you a different view on things you have to tackle and often puts things into perspective.

Some examples of breathing would be:

  • Going for a walk in the park
  • Meeting someone for coffee and a chat
  • Taking part in some sport
  • Doing some gardening
  • Listening to your favourite music

Whatever it is that you like to do, just do it!

Take 5 minutes or take a couple of hours, just make sure you take some time every day to breathe and you might find your mood and outlook on life improves.

Give Yourself a Break!

So, if you’re feeling stressed, anxious or even just a bit worn out, take a break.

Last weekend I went to a local castle and walked around the lake. The weekend before, I went to the seafront. Saturday is usually my breathing day, and I try to spend at least a few hours doing nothing more than going for a walk, meeting a friend or reading a book.

Here are a couple of photos from those trips

Happy breathing everyone!
